As far as Australian and English cricket fans are concerned, the sport is all about The Ashes. While there may be two separate world cups and a host of global T20 tournaments, nothing can beat the quest to lift that little urn.
There’s certainly nothing to match the intensity of an Ashes series and the excitement is reflected on our sportsbook where the cricket markets become ever busier when England and Australia are set to do battle.
Australia and England played the first ever test match in Melbourne in 1877. The Ashes were devised as a trophy some time later following a mock memorial for English cricket after a particularly poor performance at the Oval in 1882.
While there have been exceptions to the rule over the years, Ashes series generally involve five tests with England and Australia rotating hosting duties. The side winning most tests claims the trophy but, if the scores are tied, the team defending the Ashes gets to retain possession of the Urn.
It’s obviously possible to bet on the overall Ashes winner but there are other outright markets in place. With an Ashes series set to take place over five test matches, a number of permutations are possible in terms of correct score and this is an option that proves to be popular with many of our customers
Of course, match result betting will be in place for each of those tests while top level cricket offers plenty of potential for prop markets. Side bets on the highest scoring batsman, best performing bowler, team totals and more will be available ahead of each game. Live markets will also pick up these and other bets such as the next batsman to be dismissed, in what is a comprehensive package for members of the cricket betting community.
