The premier division for motor racing, Formula 1 serves up nine months of high-octane action every year. The best drivers in the best vehicles battle it over a gruelling season that spans more than 20 Grand Prix races. At the end of the season, points are tallied and the World Drivers’ Championship and the Constructors’ Championship are awarded to the winners.
There are now more races on the Formula 1 schedule than ever before, giving motor-racing fans plenty of opportunities to win big on bets. The sport is also fairly accessible, with new spectators able to pick up the dynamics of the teams and the competition after watching a couple of races.
During the season, there’s no shortage of excitement: Grand Prixs are held roughly every two weeks. In each race, three qualifying rounds determine the positions on the starting grid for the main race—claiming pole position is hugely advantageous, and often unassailable for drivers.
Points are awarded on a sliding scale to the top ten positions, with the race winner landing 25 points. After the final race of the season, the driver with the most points wins the World Drivers’ Championship and the top-ranking team is awarded the Constructors’ Championship.
